Barton Schmitt, MD is a Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. His main
interests are general pediatrics, behavioral pediatrics, telephone triage, and advice and parent education. Dr.
Schmitt is the Medical Director of the After-Hours Call Center at Children’s Hospital in Denver, Colorado.
The Center covers evening and weekend calls for over 400 pediatricians and family physicians in Colorado and Wyoming.
In addition to over one hundred articles and book chapters on pediatric health care, Dr. Schmitt has authored several
books and software programs for physicians.

Hanna Sherman, MD is the Vice Chairperson of the American Academy of Pediatrics’ Provisional Section on Telephone Care.
Dr. Sherman’s main interests are pediatric telephone care, practice management, clinical software design, and quality
management systems for healthcare. She was in private practice pediatrics for ten years before serving as the Medical
Director of Night Train Pediatrics, an after-hours nurse telephone triage and advice service of Children’s Hospital in
Boston, Massachusetts.
